Before getting started to the case study let me introduce you to the website.
I’ve already published a case study on my website about how I converted my $30 into $500 in which I shared how I sold one of my websites on Flippa for $500. I thought its a useless website, but turned out it wasn’t useless at all. Luckily!
Almost one month ago I was searching for an Instagram downloader website to download a photo from Instagram and I saw the same website on the 7th page for one of the main keywords. The website wasn’t SEO optimized still it was ranking on the first page for the main keyword. So, I contacted the buyer again asking him if he needs any help regarding the SEO.
Luckily he was already looking for an SEO guy to help him rank the website.
And that is how I got this client.
One year back I sold him the website and now I’m selling him my services.
So, it is a Case Study of the Instagram Downloading website. I helped the client double his organic traffic within just one month.
𝐇𝐞𝐫𝐞 𝐢𝐬 𝐡𝐨𝐰 𝐈 𝐝𝐢𝐝 𝐢𝐭.
The first step towards working on a client’s site is to audit the website; find the issues that are preventing the website to rank, and then fix them accordingly.
𝐏𝐨𝐢𝐧𝐭𝐬 𝐭𝐨 𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐬𝐢𝐝𝐞𝐫 𝐰𝐡𝐢𝐥𝐞 𝐀𝐔𝐃𝐈𝐓𝐈𝐍𝐆 𝐓𝐇𝐄 𝐖𝐄𝐁𝐒𝐈𝐓𝐄:
𝐑𝐎𝐁𝐎𝐓𝐒: check the robots.txt file. Now for those who don’t know what robots.txt, let me tell you that through this file you can communicate with web crawlers and other web robots. This small file of code informs the web robot about the areas of the website that should not be processed or scanned.
Look if this file is blocking any important links from being indexed.
You can check the robots file of any website at: abc.com/robots.txt
𝐔𝐑𝐋 𝐒𝐓𝐑𝐔𝐂𝐓𝐔𝐑𝐄: Check URL structure of the website. URL Structure is an important factor in ranking any website. Your URL Structure should be easy to read for web crawlers and users.
𝐒𝐈𝐓𝐄𝐌𝐀𝐏: Check for sitemap errors from google webmasters tools. If there is any error or problem in reaching the sitemap or the important links that aren’t being indexed then resolve it because the sitemap is the only file which helps index the URLs.
𝐃𝐔𝐏𝐋𝐈𝐂𝐀𝐓𝐄 𝐂𝐎𝐍𝐓𝐄𝐍𝐓: Check if the website is having any duplicate content on the website. I use Site Liner tool to check the duplicate content of any website.
𝐌𝐄𝐓𝐀 𝐓𝐀𝐆𝐒: Check for meta description and keywords. Are they being used on the targeted pages? If no, then use them or if they are being used then make sure meta tags are containing your targeted keywords. Also, check for duplicate & missing meta descriptions.
𝐀𝐋𝐓 𝐓𝐀𝐆𝐒 𝐅𝐎𝐑 𝐈𝐌𝐀𝐆𝐄𝐒: Check for missing alt text of the images. It’s an important ranking factor too.
𝐏𝐀𝐆𝐄 𝐒𝐏𝐄𝐄𝐃: Most of the users quit visiting your website just because your site may have very slow loading speed. So make sure the website you’re working on is having fast loading speed.
𝐈𝐍𝐃𝐄𝐗𝐈𝐍𝐆: Make sure to check the indexing status before starting working on any project. Check if any unnecessary links are being indexed. You can check the indexing status by searching site:www.site.com on google.
𝐁𝐑𝐎𝐊𝐄𝐍 𝐋𝐈𝐍𝐊𝐒: check for broken internal & external links for the site. broken links can really harm your website SEO so make sure to correct the broken links. I use this broken link checker to check the broken links.
𝐇𝐓𝐓𝐏𝐒: SSL Security is an important factor in ranking a website. you can rank without it but it can help you rank your website faster.
There’s a long list of checklist for auditing the website but these are the top factors I consider while auditing the website.
After completely auditing the website 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐬𝐞 𝐰𝐞𝐫𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐞𝐫𝐫𝐨𝐫𝐬 𝐈 𝐟𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐝 𝐨𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐜𝐥𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐭’𝐬 𝐰𝐞𝐛𝐬𝐢𝐭𝐞.
- The website title wasn’t SEO Optimized
- There weren’t any meta tags
- The focused keywords weren’t being used on the homepage
- The website wasn’t having any content at all
After encountering all the issues I started working on fixing these problems.
Here are the things I did to optimize the onpage of the site:
𝟏) My very first step was to do keyword research. I did keyword research and shortlisted the top 10 keywords to target like “Instagram downloader” and “download Instagram videos”.
𝟐) After the keyword research, I started working on onpage SEO of the site. Here’s list of things I did in the onpage SEO.
- Edited the title of the website. As you can see it in the below screenshot. Currently, the title has two of the main keywords.
𝐓𝐢𝐩: Adding your targeted keyword in the title is a good thing but make it look natural. For example, if your targeted keyword is “download Instagram videos” make the title something like “How to Download Instagram Videos From PC”. That makes it eye-catchy! This way your targeted keyword is in the title plus it looks completely natural.
- Then after adding the keywords into the title, the second thing I did was adding meta tags which include Meta Description and Meta Keywords. Some people think that meta keywords are useless to work on but i used it anyway because it proved helpful to me. As you can see I’ve put 3 targeted keywords in the meta keywords of the homepage.
And in the meta description, I’ve put 3 targeted keywords.
- After meta tags, I started putting keywords on the homepage. This step was a little bit risky because I’ve put keywords everywhere on the home. literally everywhere, in every paragraph.
Just in the image above, 4 keywords are being used. You may also call it keyword stuffing, that’s why I said it was a risky thing to do, but I did it anyway and the results were relaxing.
𝟒) And the final step for onpage SEO was adding the content. Everything else of the website was okay, the user experience, design of the website, loading speed etc, but the website was missing blog page so I recently created the blog here: https://downloader4insta.com/blog and added the recent blog posts section on the homepage of the website.
I did index the website every time I made any changes and everytime visitors graph of the website got high.
So now let me show you the results of the SEO i did so far.
When I started working on the website the website organic traffic was around 200-250 as its clear from the below screenshot.
And this is where i took the website under my control:
The graph got down because the website was down for almost 1 day due to the SSL expiry.
It took almost one week to the website for getting back on the track.
𝐏𝐫𝐨 𝐓𝐢𝐩: Monitor your website downtime, it can really harm your website. This website got down just for a day and the first-page ranking keywords dropped on the second page.
And after that, I indexed the website into Google and here are the results that I got. The website traffic got doubled.
At first, the traffic was from 200-250 unique visitors and now they are 450-500. And the blog isn’t indexed yet because it just got completed. you may already know that “content is king”. I’m sure the results of blog posting would improve the ranking too because I’m linking the homepage in every post.
So, this is how i doubled the organic traffic of the client’s website. I can help you rank your website as well. Do contact me if you’re looking for a trusted or reliable person to help you grow your business online.
